Elder financial abuse is the illegal or improper use of an older adult's money, property, or benefits, whether by strangers, a "new friend," a caregiver, or someone inside the family. The warning signs are patterns: unexplained withdrawals, sudden fear around money, unpaid bills despite enough income, or new distance from the relatives who used to help.
